Marquee (scrolling text)
/mar-KEE/ · noun · CONTENT pattern · #103
A strip of text or logos that slides continuously sideways across the screen — a news ticker, a stock ticker, a row of client logos, a sale announcement. Eye-catching, but moving text is hard to read and must be pausable.

Also called: scrolling text, ticker, news ticker, text ticker, logo ticker, crawl.

Common questions
What is scrolling text called?
A marquee, after the old HTML marquee element, or a ticker when it carries live updates such as news headlines or stock prices. A row of brand logos sliding past on a website is often called a logo ticker or logo marquee.
What is the scrolling text at the bottom of the news called?
A news ticker, also called a crawl or chyron crawl. The static caption above it naming the story or the speaker is the chyron or lower third. On websites the same idea appears as a breaking-news marquee.
Is the HTML marquee tag deprecated?
Yes. The marquee element is obsolete in the HTML standard; browsers still render it for old pages, but new sites should use a CSS animation, which can pause on hover and respect the reduced-motion setting.

Add a marquee strip below the header that scrolls a row of short announcements (or client logos) slowly from right to left in a seamless loop, using a CSS keyframe animation on a duplicated track rather than the obsolete marquee element. Pause it on hover and focus, add a visible pause button, and show it static when prefers-reduced-motion is set. Keep every item readable and reachable as plain text for screen readers.
